Alas, if only there were more agents like Chris Pine's agent.

For months, I've been trying to connect with a star for our feature and have been stopped stone cold by their agent Andrew Kurland at CAA. Mr. Kurland told me via email that unless I can make a Pay or Play offer to the star now, he would not be able to do anything with our script. End of discussion.

Pay or Play is a legally binding contract that obligates a producer to paying the star whether the film gets made or not. Making it a requirement BEFORE an agent will even pass along a script to an actor is a gatekeeping practice that winnows out indie filmmakers.

I've made several shorts about my efforts hoping to bypass the agent and get to the star, directly. Here's the first video:
